Why We Never Launch Websites on a Friday (And Why We Did It Anyway)

A little superstition, a little strategy, and the real way to launch a website properly.
The Golden Rule of Website Launches
At Air66 we have a rule when launching websites.
Never launch on a Friday.
Not because we’re superstitious.
Because we’re practical.
Websites rarely fail in dramatic ways. Instead, small issues appear after launch.
DNS propagation delays
SSL certificates needing time to settle
Caching behaving strangely
Email sending from the domain needing verification
Analytics or tracking scripts not firing properly
None of these are major problems.
But they always show up when you least want them to.
And if you launch on a Friday afternoon, those small issues can run straight into the weekend.
When hosting support is slower.
Developers are offline.
And a quick fix suddenly becomes a 48-hour wait.
So the safest time to launch a website?
Tuesday or Wednesday.
Early enough in the week to monitor everything and resolve issues before the weekend.
But Today We Broke Our Own Rule
Today the new Air66 website went live.
And yes… we launched on a Friday.
Not just any Friday.
Friday the 13th.
If you’re going to break a rule, you might as well go all in.
This particular launch was also a bit different for us.
While we normally build websites for our clients, this time our founder David was instrumental in helping with design and even some of the coding.
Which means if anything breaks…
He knows exactly who to blame.
The Right Way to Launch a Website
Whether you're launching a brand new site or redesigning an existing one, the process matters.
Here’s the checklist we follow.
1. Lower DNS TTL in Advance
Before launch we reduce the DNS TTL so domain changes propagate faster.
This can turn a 24-hour propagation window into minutes.
2. Test on a Staging Environment
We never build directly on the live domain.
Everything is tested on staging first:
Mobile performance
Contact forms
Integrations
Page speed
Tracking scripts
3. Check All Integrations
Before launch we verify:
Analytics tracking
Conversion tracking
CRM connections
Email delivery
Form submissions
A website that looks great but doesn’t track leads properly is a very expensive brochure.
4. Run Performance Tests
Before launch we check:
Page load speed
Image optimisation
Core Web Vitals
Mobile responsiveness
Performance impacts both SEO and conversion rates.
5. Monitor the Site After Launch
The first 24–48 hours after launch are critical.
We monitor:
traffic behaviour
errors
form submissions
tracking data
That’s when small issues usually appear — and when they’re easiest to fix.
Websites Aren’t Just Design Projects
One of the biggest mistakes businesses make is treating a website launch like a design milestone.
In reality, it’s a growth milestone.
A good website should:
generate leads
capture enquiries
integrate with your CRM
support your marketing campaigns
Because a beautiful website that nobody sees…
Is just expensive decoration.
Breaking the Rule (Safely)
So yes, today we broke our own rule.
Launching a website on Friday the 13th might sound like tempting fate.
But if the groundwork is done properly, it’s just another day on the calendar.
The new Air66 website has been:
tested
staged
optimised
monitored
So if anything spooky happens…
We’ll be ready (Well David will, he has said he will monitor over the weekend!)
